NEW COUNCIL REFUSES TO RECONSIDER MAIL IN BALLOT

  In spite of a unified attempt by most Lake Associations to appease the concerns of the Mayor, Council summarily rejected reinstatement of the mail in ballot. We all should thank Councillor Paul Tomlinson and Louis Wadsworth for their continued support.  Please ask yourself the question: “Why are they trying to keep people from voting?”
 The answer should encourage everyone to make the extra effort and make your vote count.  These are the people who did this to you…..remember their names:

NEW   WHAT’S BEHIND OUR EXORBITANT TAXES

  Excerpts from Councillor Wadsworth’s presentation to Council:
- Staffing costs have increased from 2000 to 2008 from $189,000 to $693,000, (366%!) This increase doesn’t include a new public works employee, an administrator, and a manager.
 Note: A proposal for another half time custodial staff and a data entry clerk were presented this Council meeting.
- The Province publishes an efficiency measure (% of Total Municipal Operating costs that were spent on Governance and Corporate Management) Kearney spends 29.8%. all our neighbouring municipalities spend under 11%.

No action was taken by council as a result of this presentation. The budget will be prepared without any spending reduction direction to the town staff.
